It's been awhile since I last posted but I thought I would share some news with you! Luke proposed on July 11th!
It was a fantastic evening and I was certainly shocked!

This summer has been incredibly busy! Luke completed a 285 km charity race across PEI and we spent a few nights afterwards camping at Stanhope park. This weekend is my cousins wedding and on Monday I start my last 2 week session of art camp.

I'm really looking forward to a new session with new kids and still it's always nice to see some of the same faces return.

I've done little art making this summer, well - you could consider the countless number of crafts made with the kids but my demos aren't exactly my best. ;)

OK, so another weekend on it's way - looking forward to it!

I've started my camp through New Minas recreation and my numbers are great! I have 22 kids this week - including one that leaves every morning as he is homesick -  it's been a great success.

I'm really happy with the turn-out. Last week we screen printed T-Shirts and they were lovely. The kids got a kick out of the process and each of them took a turn to print.

It's been a busy summer thus far. I had two job interviews last week and I am happy to say I will be back at Horton High in Sept teaching high school art. The school is amazing, the staff is great and the art room is more you could ever ask for - I feel very lucky. It's only 50% but I am thinking I'll use the other time to finish up a course I need to work on and perhaps work on a portfolio for a masters program. I am torn between a masters of fine arts and a masters of education. If I did the MFA, it would for sure be in jewelery. I miss it soo much.

Finally, after weeks of cloud and rain, we have nice weather today! Thank goodness!

We're pretty excited about our new tent! It's great! We can't wait to go camping this summer. Luke has a bike race in PEI this summer so we are planning on some nights in the great outdoors.

I'm currently working on planning for my summer art camp - I have little time these days for my own work but I plan on posting some pictures of my contemporary "Art Jewellery" soon enough.

I was thrilled to find boxes of it this past weekend at my parents house in Halifax. I miss it so much and I can't wait to have a house one day with a studio so I can make my own work..... and get my own torch! I get so excited thinking about it all, I really can't wait!

I wanted to post this picture of one of my best friends, Sara. Sara
is painter who I met the first day of NSCAD, we bonded from day #1. Sara just recently left Nova Scotia to head to Hamilton where her and her boyfriend, Marcel, have bought a house :)
I just love her work, she is not only talented, she is probably the nicest, sweetest, and caring person I have ever met.
I just thought I would add this because it's hitting home that she has left! I can't wait to see her in the fall in Hamilton at Jenna's wedding! Oh and it's totally worth it to check out her work! ;)

Manic Monday

I wanted to post this picture of myself with my two newly engaged friends. These two little cuties are both textile artists.
Jenna  is getting married this Thanksgiving and I am a bridesmaid in her wedding! She's in the middle.
Tanis and I went to NSCAD together for just one year - she opted to leave us and finish Uni at home in Montreal at Concordia. We have all stayed in touch and are lucky to have the visits that we have.
These two lovely ladies are an inspiration to me! Just check out their blog spots! They are wonderfully talented!
I posted this picture because of a few reasons. 1. I think it's pretty cute 2. I'm with two of my favorite ladies in the universe AND 3. that rusted rooster is just great.
I've got such a talented group of friends, I will post more on them and their work on a later date - they are all equally worthy of praise.
I received Martha Stewarts Encyclopedia of Crafts in the mail today - it was such a nice surprise after a very hectic Monday at school!

A Present from Mary!

My dear friend Mary (who is 4 months pregnant!) ordered me these sweet labels. I will start to attach them to my work. Cute as a button!

Mary is a great friend, generous and thoughtful. We went to school together at both Acadia U and NSCAD U and both of us share a passion for art. We sailed together for years at RNSYS and even trained together for Canada Games in '99, we both went to art school and then did our education degrees.  So I guess you can tell, we share the same interestes!

Apart from being a talented artist, Mary is also a teacher in the school system and instructor of ceramics at a local gallery.

A Present for Lou!

This is a pillow that I made for my boyfriends mother, Mary Lou. We both love to sew and do all things crafty so I am sure she will appreciate this.
What's special about this pillow is that is was started as a bag in a class that we both took together and for the past year we have been saying that we need to get together and finish it. I decided that instead of making a bag I would never use; I would make a pillow.
I added some buttons because some the seams looked awkward. I thought that this was an element that worked as it grounded the pattern.
I tried to stick to a natural color scheme - I think I'm always doing this. I feel safe with these combinations for now.

All in all, I am happy with this as a gift for Mary Lou, I think it's a nice sentiment as it is something completed that we had started together. We have a great friendship and we enjoy to do many of the same things - crafting is just one of them.
